A Snail's Pace Running Academy"A Fitness Lifestyle" |
The goal of the Running Academy is to create a Group Running environment where almost anyone can improve their level of fitness and their running ability, and learn to incorporate running into their very own Fitness Lifestyle.
There are several courses available in the Running Academy, designed to accommodate virtually any fitness level. The Running 100, 101, 102 & 103 courses are designed for novice runners, or experienced runners returning to running after a layoff. All three courses are based on the Run/Walk method, and each course is 13 weeks long, 3 days per week, for a total of 39 sessions.
These courses may be repeated as many times as desired (a new tuition is required for each repeat) before moving up to the more extensive training of Running 201 (the 16-week Half-Marathon training course), and Running 301 (the 26-week Marathon training course). Participants must be 18, or over, to enroll in any of the Running Academy courses.
Running 100 is a safe and effective way to introduce the body to aerobic activity. This class is a structured such that anyone can begin to appreciate running with absolutely no prior running or walking experience. This class will cover the basics of footwear, stretching, warm up techniques and nutrition.
This class is designed in four levels of progression. We will begin with Level I which is straight brisk walking. We will complete the class with Level IV which is the most challenging level and will introduce 60-seconds of easy jogging.
The goal for this class will be to complete a 1-hour easy walk/jog. Upon successful completion of this class the athlete will have the option to re-enroll or to advance to the next session Running 101-Beginning 5k training.
Pre-requisite for this class is 1-2 months of brisk walking experience required before enrolling in this class.
There are four levels of progression designed with a safe and injury-free method of running/walking. The course will cover basic running techniques, stretching, nutrition and hydration needs and prepare you to run/walk up to 5k distance and to consider moving up to the next course, Running 102. Below is a graduating course from our Brea/Yorba Linda 101 group.
Pre-requisite is three, or more, months of running experience or completion of Running 101. The course covers a review of the basics from Running 101, adding to the fundamentals of running with an emphasis on form.
You will also receive an introduction to balance and core training techniques. In this course, you will increase your endurance, become a more efficient runner, and be prepared to run or run/walk up to the 10k distance. Successful completion of this course will prepare you for the next level, Running 103.
Pre-requisite is 3-6 months of running experience, or completion of Running 102. Training in this course includes longer, sustained running and a strong emphasis on core exercises to improve balance and strength.
Having combined extended running with the strength training in this course, you will be prepared to run up to 10 miles and consider moving into Running 201, the Running Academy's Half-Marathon training course.
RUNNING 201, the Running Academy Half-Marathon Training Course, is ideal for first time Half-Marathoners, as well as veteran half-marathoners who enjoy group training.
We recommend that you have either completed RUNNING 103, or have been running regularly for at least three months before considering this Course. Note that Race Registration, including fees, must be done separately by the participant and is not included in Academy enrollment.
We will conduct a fitness evaluation the first day of your training to determine which Pace Group is most appropriate for you.
In this Course you will be doing Long Runs once a week with your Pace Group (Saturday or Sunday, depending on your location), and also following a training schedule requiring four other runs during the week.
Coach-less fun runs are available on Monday and Wednesday evenings with A Snail's Pace Running Club Visit website www.ASnailsPace.net for club locations
The goal of RUNNING 201 is to get you to the finish line of your half marathon injury free.
RUNNING 301, the Running Academy Marathon Training Course, is ideal for first time Marathoners, and also works extremely well for veteran marathoners who enjoy the camaraderie of group training, especially on those long training runs.
We recommend that you have either completed RUNNING 201 or a half-marathon in the last six months; or that you have been running at least 3-4 days per week for 4-6 months. You must be able to complete a six-mile run on the first day of the course.
Note that Race Registration, including fees, must be done separately by the participant and is not included in Academy enrollment.
This is a 26-week course with one group meeting each week. Schedule requires five days per week running (four days on your own, plus the one group run day). Coach-less fun runs are available during the week with A Snail's Pace Running Club; visit www.ASnailsPace.net for Running Club locations and details.
